This study was performed to clarify the morphological characteristics of the Marin-Gruber anastomosis(MGA) in Korean adults. Dissection with surgical microscope was carried out in 95 cadaveric upper limbs. MGA was found in 36 upper limbs(37.9%). These anastomosis were classified to the four types. Type ¥° is the communication between the anterior interosseous nerve and the ulnar nerve(n=7, 19.4%). Type ¥± is the communication between the median nerve and the ulnar nerve(n=14, 38.9%). Type ¥² is the communication between the muscular branches distributing to the flexor digitorum profundus muscle(n=7, 19.4%). Type ¥³ is the mixed patterns of type ¥° and ¥² or type ¥± and ¥²(n=8, 22.2%). The anatomical frequency of MGA in Korean adults was found to be higher than other races except in Russian. The levels of the anastomosis from the line connecting epicondyles of the humerus were average 4.8(range 0.6-8.8) cm at the median nerve and average 5.6(range 2.5-12.2) cm at the ulnar nerve. The thickness of the communicating branches was average I.2(range 0.4-2.1) mm. These metric data may be a guide to hand surgeon dealing with the electrodiagnosis and surgical practice.
